Digital Mobile Radio is an international digital radio standard for voice and SMS. It is widely used commercially for its clarity, efficiency of having 2 separate transmissions in normal single transmission FM bandwidth and ability to group users organizationally into different “talk groups” by organizational responsibility. DMR is popular in amateur radio for its ability to dedicate talk groups to specific geographical regions, amateur organizations or subjects of interest. In both applications it is often linked via Internet by various commercial or amateur organizations to broadcast (outdoor) and personal (indoor) radio repeaters regionally and around the world.
