National Memorial & Westminster

Just a picture post today to catch you up. Sunday mostly in Burton on Trent and Monday in Westminster.

Among many things I’m glad has changed since my youth – Americans have gone back to honoring soldiers, and save any demonizing for the politicians. Well, we Yanks could still learn some things from the Brits about honoring veterans.

Our hosts in Gainsborough are veterans and/or parents/spouses of same, with lots of time working with veterans charities. Sunday was a gorgeous day and they took us out to the National Memorial Arboretum – a huge and beautiful park giving space for general and specific veterans groups to honor service and the fallen. Below are pictures from Sunday.

These British – so polite… once you’re under the limit!

We said au revoir and many thanks to our friends and were off to London on Monday! Doncaster to London tickets super bargain thanks to tips from the man in seat 61 and our Two Together rail card forwarded by another friend. Our plan after dropping bags in Balham was to get back in the Tube and up to London to see the Palace of Westminster and its Queen Elizabeth clock tower*, then tour Westminster Abbey. Awesome afternoon and then dinner with Sherlock theme. Pictures below and a recording of the chime.

Good food – street is Cravens Passage
