Our brief stay in Edinburgh ended with a beautiful breakfast table at our BnB.
Our cabbie didn’t really like trains, can’t pick up fares at the station, hadn’t ridden a train in decades and didn’t really know how we’d get into Waverly station from where he was going to drop us. However, even these sour grapes just added spice to our journey, and his drop off point was spot on to speed us on our way!
Our train to York had smaller windows and more seats (2nd class), so it was hard to take pictures. Got a picture of this structure in Newcastle – its called “the slug”.
York had a beautiful station We waited there a while and had some coffee
We met our friends for tea in a converted train car so elegant (and tasty) – I had proper 2nd flush Darjeeling with my goodies
And we explored tons of trains at the National Railway Museum
The York Minster has been there so long the features are weathering away. We got to see how 21st century stone masons are repairing and recreating the stones and statues by hand
So much more I couldn’t show because the pics are uploading slowly – Gainsborough’s medeival old hall, Roman pillar of York and more fun stuff. We had a lovely day!
Hers a video with more pictures. Perhaps I can record narration but for now it has a soundtrack
