Our Edinburgh day in 7 minutes

We knew we’d only have an afternoon in Edinburgh this trip, and so we only planned two visits – the Castle and Holyrood Palace. Our day began with a ScotRail journey from Fort William with a planned change of trains  in Glasgow. The ride through the highlands down to Glasgow was stunning …

especially for folks used to the Arid grey greens and browns of SoCal’s chaparral. Vivid green and water everywhere (but just a few raindrops – another perfect day for exploring).

We took the walking tour at the Castle (highly recommended whether you’re spending the day or just a couple hours). Here’s our high energy guide Lesley giving the tour in proper brogue, before we headed off to see the Crown Jewels and great hall (and we bought a wee tartan umbrella in the gift shop just in case).

Then we walk the royal mile down to the Holyrood palace.
Lots of great info about the palace of Holyroodhouse and its people from Scots kings to Elizabeth II to one of Cary’s favorites characters, Mary Queen of Scots.

We ended the day at a quirky, but tasty, pizza place and with Kim ripping the seam of one of his two pairs of pants from waist to mid-thigh due to the pocketed umbrella catching the door frame while hopping a cab.  Where’s that sewing kit?

Here follows 7 minutes of random videos from today’s pictures, but don’t feel you have to stick it out til the end.
